These windmills
take advantage of the strength and light weight of the long fiberglass blades.
|
|
There
is a growing tendency to harness wind power as this has been proven to be a
viable renewable source of energy. Wind turbine blades are made from composites
that use glass fibers. The composites provide high strength, light weight, and
design flexibility.
The Fiberex 408 series and
503 series of
single end
roving are used to make the unidirectional and multi-axial
fabrics that go into the manufacture of the composite blades. The
reinforcements are amenable to the fabrication techniques used in manufacture
of the blades-
be it the most recent vacuum assisted resin infusion technique or the pre-impregnated
reinforcement lay-up.
